Part 8: Functional Safety Management according to IEC 61508-1 – a summary.

With our publications on the subject of product life cycle management, we aim to provide information on standards and regulations and to support SMEs in particular with questions relating to functional safety.

With Part 8, the last article on the topic of functional safety for SMEs, we make the final bow over all parts of the series and end it with a summary.

Functional Safety Management according to IEC 61508-1 – a summary

The biggest motivation to take up the challenge of FMEA is the increasing demand for safety products and the danger of falling behind the competition without safety products in the portfolio.

The information, diagrams and descriptions in our summary show why the introduction of an FSM system and the establishment of a Functional Safety development makes sense. However, they also show that it is time-consuming, goes far beyond development, holds pitfalls in every respect and is best approached as a project itself.
